MY STORY

Dennis G. Hooper, M.D., Ph.D.

Founder and Leading MSC Expert

I grew up in Central Nevada in the 1950s. My county was located north of the nuclear bomb sites where the original H bombs were exploded in the deserts of Nevada. The bomb nuclear exposures and dusts were in the wind streams which traveled over the counties in Central Nevada and Utah. Many patients were affected by such exposures and have been reported to have multiple cancers and autoimmune diseases. Such patients were called “up-winders” and were designated recipients of federal compensation if those patients developed cancers. Autoimmunity, however, was ignored and not explored.

I developed my first autoimmune disorder of hyperthyroid disorder (Grave’s Disease) which progressed to “burn-out” to hypothyroid disorder (Hashimoto’s Disease). Over the years, I have had multiple evaluations and diagnosis of autoimmune disorders. Such diagnosis included Rheumatoid Arthritis which led to bilateral knee replacement,  gum and teeth destructions, skin disorders (vitiligo),  atherosclerosis leading to stent replacement, and ultimately AIH(autoimmune hepatitis). The last diagnosis led to an ultimate Liver Transplant in 2022.

In my many medical evaluations, I was evaluated by a medical team which was only dedicated to an organ system, not the entire patient. I saw endocrinologists, rheumatologists, orthopedic surgeons, gastroenterologists, hepatologists, psychiatrists, and naturopaths. All these groups were excellent but didn’t consider the entire patient, in my opinion.

I have been interested in environmental exposures of chemicals, bacterial and fungal toxins since my first diagnosis. I was instrumental in evaluating techniques and validating clinical laboratory tests for evaluating body fluids with fungal toxins. The laboratory, RealTime Laboratories, Inc., has been a CLIA and CAP laboratory  and was dedicated to looking at mycotoxins (mold toxins) in urine from environmentally exposed patients. Recently, the laboratory began looking at other environmental toxins (i.e. glyphosate (Round Up)) and how it affects certain organ systems.

Recently,  I have formed a new company, Silver Gene LLC, dedicated to looking at environmental exposures, nutritional genetic mutations, and the autoimmune disorders that follow. Also, I have been interested in how nutrition evaluations can be helpful in autoimmune disorders.

Thus, Silver Gene, LLC will use nutritional genetics, clinical evaluations, environmental exposures and review of all current research and treatment modalities to present to clinicians who have patients with such autoimmune disorders.
